NEW DELHI: A city court has decided to get to the bottom of a stunning claim by two Tihar prisoners that they were provided with a pistol and a knife by jail officials to murder tainted officials of the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee who are currently lodged in the jail.

CBI believes the disgraced OC officials — T S Darbari, M Jeychandren and Sanjay Mohindroo — have knowledge of money trails in various CWG scams and their disclosures can help nail the guilty. All three are in judicial custody.

The Tihar spokesperson angrily dismissed the claim of the two undertrials as an attempt to ensure they are not separated and can ‘‘ scheme and plot together’’. But chief metropolitan magistrate Vinod Yadav took serious note of the claim and has sought a detailed report on the allegations from the SHO of Hari Nagar police station by December 24.

The undertrials, Nishant and Amit, claimed jail officials had given them a country-made pistol and a knife to eliminate two of the three CWG officials. They did not name the officials they were asked to eliminate. A knife was recovered from their barrack.

In their application before the court, the two said that they were shifted from the ordinary cell to the high-security ward where the former CWG officials are kept.

The duo added that the pistol secretly provided to them by prison officials was later taken back.
