Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama returns to Dharamsala, allays reports of bad health

DHARAMSALA: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama today returned to his abode here, allaying fears of his deteriorating health to the many followers who waited patiently to get a glimpse of their leader.

The 80-year-old spiritual leader, who had returned from a medical check-up in the US, was seen walking leisurely without any support and looked cheerful.

"There is no need to worry, I am in excellent health. I had gone for medical checkup and I am okay," Dalai Lama told a group of followers who had gathered to welcome him at Gaggal Airport in Kangra.

The leader, known for his wit, added, "Any change in my face?"

The leader later left for McleodGanj by car.

He was relieved from Mayo Hospital in Rochester after a check up on Wednesday.

Addressing the Tibetan community after being discharged from the hospital, the Dalai Lama had urged the Tibetans not to worry and declared that he was in good health.

"As some of you may know, for the last 10 years or so, I've been coming to the Mayo Hospital almost every year for routine physical check-ups. Even in India, I go for physical check-ups every six months or so at New Delhi. And that's why I'm here this time also," he had said.

The Tibetan leader, who was on a fortnight visit to European countries, had cancelled his October visit to the US after doctors advised him to rest.

Among the Dalai Lama's cancelled appearances this month was a planned visit to the University of Colorado in Boulder as well as appearances in Salt Lake City and Philadelphia.
