DHARAMSALA: Expressing sadness at the devastation caused by the massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Nepal, the Tibetan government-in-exile today announced a financial aid of Rs 12.5 lakh to the neighbouring country.

In an emergency meeting of the Kashag (Tibetan Parliament in Dharamsala), the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) today expressed shock and sadness and announced a financial aid or Rs 12.5 lakh (NPR 20 lakh) to the government of Nepal.

"In this painful time, words fail to convey how deeply we feel for the people affected in Nepal, Tibet and India. On behalf of the CTA and Tibetan people, I express condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and whose lives have been devastated by this horrific calamity," Tibetan PM-in-exile, Lobsang Sangay, said.

The Kashag also issued instructions to settlement officers and representatives abroad to collect donations from their respective areas for the relief efforts in Nepal.

It also announced that a special prayer session would be held tomorrow at 4 pm at Tsuglagkhang (Main Tibetan temple) in Mcleod Ganj to offer prayers to those who have lost their lives in the disaster.

The Kashag further directed all Tibetan settlements, monasteries and communities in Nepal to actively engage in rescue and relief efforts in their localities.
