NEW DELHI: Three Union Ministers will pay the last respect to veteran politician P A Sangma, the first Lok Sabha Speaker from the North East, in Tura in Meghalaya.

Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister for for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju will attend the function in Tura tomorrow following a directive of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an official spokesperson said.

While Singh and Rijiju will accompany the body from Delhi tomorrow, Sonowal will join them in Guwahati, enroute to Tura.

68-year-old Sangma passed away here today.

The funeral is expected to be held in Sangma's home town Tura, West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, on Sunday.

Sangma was the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990 and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly from 1990 to 1991.
