Three months after polls, BJP to appoint Jharkhand LoP

New Delhi: Three months after the assembly elections, the BJP has finally decided to appoint the leader of Opposition in Jharkhand. In this regard, the party on Wednesday appointed Union minister Bhupendra Yadav and BJP's OBC Morcha head K Laxman as observer to elect the leader of the BJP in Jharkhand assembly.

Both the leaders will arrive in Ranchi on Thursday and participate in the meeting of BJP legislatures. Post the election, the party has not been able to appoint a new leader of Opposition in the state even when the budget session is going on. Amar Kumar Bauri, the leader of Opposition in the last assembly, lost his election this time and the party was looking for a new leader in his place.

There are several names doing the rounds for the post. BJP sources tell ET that the party is trying to rejig the entire organisation by promoting new faces, both as leader of Opposition and state president. Since the party has appointed two OBC leaders as observers, some of the leaders in Jharkhand speculate that an OBC leader will be appointed as leader of Opposition.


Koderma MLA Neera Yadav is one of the contenders for the post. Similarly, names of current party state president Babulal Marandi, senior party MLA Raj Sinha and a few other names are also doing the rounds if the party is looking at different caste combinations.
