Three including two Saudi nationals killed in Manipur jail riot
GUWAHATI: In a riot inside the Sajiwa jail in Manipur, three persons - two Saudi Arabian nationals and a tribal from Manipur - were killed.

A senior police official told ET, "There was a fight between the inmates. Two Saudi Arabian nationals attacked Manipuri inmate Thangminlian Zou, in which the latter was killed. Following this, other inmates attacked the two Saudis."

Jail authorities had to resort to using tear gas to control the violence.

It, however, failed to quell the trouble. The two Saudi nationals had been lodged in the jail since 2013 after they were arrested in Moreh, an Indo-Myanmar border town.

They had been convicted under section 14 of the Foreigners Act following two cases registered at the Moreh police station.

Police officials said that deportation of the two could not take place because Saudi Arabia had held that they could not be ascertained.
