Three Immediate Support Vessels commissioned into Navy

MUMBAI: Three Immediate Support Vessels ( ISVs) were commissioned into the Indian Navy here today by the Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.

These ships will comprise the 82nd ISV squadron and four more such ships will join the squadron in the near future. Seven ISVs were commissioned on January 30 last year, a defence release here said.

These ISVs have been designed and constructed by M/s SHM Shipcare, Mumbai. This project represents the 'Make in India' concept that is encouraged by the government, the release added.

The ships have been funded by ONGC and will be operated by Indian Naval Crew.

The ISVs have Heavy Machine Guns (HMGs), state-of-the art radar and navigation equipment. These versatile ships are capable of patrolling the coastal stations at high speeds in excess of 40 knots and will be deployed primarily for the security of the Offshore Development Areas (ODA).
