Three arrested Jharkhand MLAs have been remanded to four-day Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) custody by a local court on Wednesday in Kolkata. Meanwhile, a vehicle and Rs five lakh have been seized by the agency from the arrested Jamtara MLA Irffan Ansari's house in Jharkhand during CID’s raid.

The agency sleuths raided the residence of Irfan Ansari from Jamtara assembly constituency after a CCTV footage “reportedly” came under the agency’s scanner, showing the vehicle entering the arrested businessman Mahesh Agarwal’s office at Lalbazar in Kolkata on July 21.

The CID officials raided the residence of Ansari in Jharkhand and seized the vehicle, which was spotted in the CCTV footage by the agency. They also recovered Rs 5 lakh cash from Ansari’s residence during the raid. The vehicle “reportedly” entered businessman Agarwal’s office and a huge sum of money was transferred to the Jharkhand MLA, sources in the know claimed.

The CID raided Agarwal’s share trading firm in Lalbazar last week, in connection with money transfer to the Jharkhand MLAs. The CID sleuths seized more than Rs 3.31 lakh cash, 250 silver coins, passbook and cheque books and hard disks from the firm located at Bikaner Building and later arrested Agarwal.

The three suspended Jharkhand MLAs – Irfan Ansari from Jamtara assembly constituency, Rajesh Kachhap from Khijri (Scheduled Tribe) assembly constituency and Naman Bixal Kongari from Kolebira (Scheduled Tribe) assembly constituency – were arrested on July 31 and a vehicle, in which they were travelling, was intercepted by the West Bengal Police at Panchla in Howrah.
