Thousands across Kerala pay homage to ancestors on auspicious Karkidaka Vavu day
People believe that departed souls attain "moksha" if this homage is performed on Karkidaka vavu day on the Malayalam month of Kardidakam.

People thronged "Bali tharpanam" centres from early morning. Temples in the state also witnessed a heavy rush of devotees on the occasion.
In the state capital, special arrangements were made at Sree Parasurama temple at Thiruvalom, Shangumugham beach and nearby Varkala Papanasam beach.
The Periyar river base at Aluwa in Kochi also witnessed a heavy rush of people to offer tharpan.
