Thoughts, prayers with people of Myanmar: Mizo CM during talks with Myanmar minister

Mizoram CM Zoramthanga on Sunday held a meeting with Myanmar’s foreign minister Zin Mar Aung on the current political situation in the neighbouring country and the hardships being faced by the people there. He tweeted: “Had a fruitful meeting (online) this morning with Zin Mar Aung, Hon’ble Foreign Minister, Myanmar. Our thoughts and prayers are with #Myanmar in these trying times.” Zoramthanga said: “It is our prayer that your sufferings and mental distress died down very soon.”

Zoramthanga in a letter to PM Modi on Saturday said: “...It may be mentioned that the Myanmar areas bordering Mizoram are inhabited by Chin communities who are ethnically our Mizo brethren with whom we have been having close contacts throughout all these years. Therefore, Mizoram cannot just remain indifferent to their sufferings today. India cannot turn a blind eye to this humanitarian crisis unfolding right in front of us in our own backyard.”

The deputy commissioner of Falam district in Myanmar has written to the deputy commissioner of Champai district in Mizoram to detain Myanmar police personnel and hand them over to Myanmar.
