GUWAHATI: Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that students willing to travel will have do it at their own risk.

Replying to a tweet, Sarma said: “There is no question of confirmation or non-confirmation. It is the decision of students to come on their own risk and also volunteered to follow quarantine rule of government. We are only concern about your well-being.”

When asked if government is providing transport for Kota Students to return home, Sarma said, “No students have to take on rent.”


Large numbers of students from Northeast India are stranded in Kota following lockdown.

Assam has send Rs 2000 as sustenance allowance to 86,000 people stranded outside the state.

“The call center set up to assist stranded people has received over 9 lakh calls. After filter on head count basis we have got around 4, 29, 851 people, out of this 2, 28, 126 people have filled up form,” Sarma on Monday had said.

“After proper scrutiny of account numbers, we have for the first transfer selected 86,000 people who will receive Rs 2000. We will send another instalment to these people later,” he added.

“ We have found around 68,000 people from Assam are stuck in Karnataka, 36,000 in Tamil Nadu, 34,000 in Kerala, 21,000 in Maharashtra and the rest in other states,” he further said.
