Thomas Abraham selected for Bharatvanshi Gaurav award

Thomas Abraham, Chairman of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Orgin (GOPIO), has been selected for the "Bharatvanshi Gaurav" (Pride of India) award for his services to the Indian diaspora.

NEW YORK: Thomas Abraham, Chairman of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Orgin (GOPIO), has been selected for the "Bharatvanshi Gaurav" (Pride of India) award for his services to the Indian diaspora.

Abraham will recieve the award from former Indian Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at New Delhi on January 4.

Abraham's involvement in the Indian-American community started in 1975 when he was elected as the President of Indian Club of Columbia University.

Abraham had also served as the co-chairman of the fund raising campaign to institute a chair for Indian studies (now known as Jagdish Bhagwati Chair for Indian Political Economy) at Columbia University.

The award is consituted by an Indian NGO, Antar Raishtriya Sahayog Nyas (Trust of International Cooperation).
