This diamond merchant gifts Rs 1-crore Mercedes to employees

Popular Gujarat diamond merchant, Savji Dholakia, has done it again. The promoter of Rs 6,000-crore Hari Krishna Exports, who often rewards his employees with expensive gifts, has this time gifted Mercedes to three employees. Dholakia has gifted Mercedes-Benz GLS 350d SUVs worth Rs 1 crore each, to three employees for completing 25 years of service in the company.

The three staffers -- Mukesh Chandpara (38), Nilesh Jada (40) and Mahesh Chandpara (43) -- had joined the company in their teens. "These three employees had joined the company when they were around 13 or 15 years old. They started with learning to cut diamonds and polish it and now they are not only experts but most senior and one of the most trusted people of our company," TOI quoted Dholakia as saying.

"I felt we must recognize their work and loyalty to the company and so I decided to gift them these cars as our gratitude to them and their loyalty and hard work,” Dholakia told ToI.


The cars were gifted to the employees at a ceremony in Surat by Former Gujarat CM and Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel. According to reports, the company also handed over Rs 1 crore insurance cheques to the family members of its former staffer Dilip Savaliya, who died in car accident this year.

This is not the first time when Dholakia has rewarded his employees with expensive gifts. The Surat-based merchant had gifted 500 flats, 525 pieces of diamond jewellery and 200 flats to his employees in 2014 as Diwali bonus. In 2015, Dholakia rewarded 1,268 employees, while in 2016 he gifted 1,260 cars and 400 flats to the deserving staff in 2016.

Generous Dholakia came to Surat in 1977 on a state transport bus with just Rs 12.5 in his pocket. Now, him company has more than 5,500 employees and has an annual turnover of over Rs 6,000 crores.
