Third Front is Communist "day dream", says TMC

KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress today said the eleven parties forming an "alternative" to defeat Congress and BJP is "a Communist day-dream" and an attempt of the Left to exert their influence without responsibility.

"Third Front was not just dead, but was never born," TMC spokesperson Derek O'Brien told PTI.

"It is a hobby horse of the Communists, who want to use the power of regional parties to manipulate their way to influence without responsibilities and to promote obsolete agendas," he said, adding, that the Third Front is a "Communist day-dream".

Keeping the issue of prime ministerial candidate on the back-burner, 11 Left and secular parties today came together claiming to be an alternative and vowed to defeat both Congress and BJP.

The announcement was made after an hour-long meeting in Delhi of the leaders of JD(U), Samajwadi Party, AIADMK, JD(S), Jharkhand Vikas Morcha and four Left parties.
