There may be bad blood between Rahul Gandhi and Lalu Prasad over the former’s ordinance tearing act, but JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar remains bent on wooing Gandhi. Kumar will join Gandhi in his first electoral rally in Champaran, later this month. All eyes are now on Prasad: Will he choose to bury the hatchet and attend the rally?
Africa Not For High-Flyers
Notwithstanding the brouhaha over the India-Africa Summit that could see participation of over 40 heads of state from Africa, there are not many takers for ambassadorial postings from the rank of Indian Foreign Service-A grade. Recently, ambassadors for Zimbabwe and Mali were chosen from among IFS-B rank as the continent is not yet attractive enough for high-flyers.
Right Season for Defence Expo?
While the response from foreign vendors has been enthusiastic, shifting the venue of Defence Expo from Delhi for next year comes with its own set of ‘Goa issues’. An earlier date planned for February has now been changed to the end of March after most exhibitors petitioned on similar ground — prohibitive high costs for hotel accommodation given that February falls within the ‘Goa season’.
CPM’s Krishna Revolution
Before the UPA-Left days, CPM bosses used say that Sonia or other Congress leaders making temple visits before kicking off campaigns “amounted to soft-Hindutva politics”. Reeling under BJP pressure, Kerala CPM has started its own ‘Krishna shows’. A Congressman wondered whether Karat-Yechury combine sees in it “a softer Hindutva” or is giving Lord Krishna a revolutionary touch!
