What’s on the Menu?

The Cabinet Secretariat is now eyeing the insides of government canteens and cafeterias. In an order issued last week, the secretariat has written to all ministries seeking information about “key indicators of departmental canteen”. These indicators include the subsidy/financial assistance extended to these units in 2014-15 and 2015-16 and details of infrastructure and manpower.

Who After Bassi?

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi, who is due to complete his tenure in February next year, is now in the run for Central Information Commissioner (CIC). The race has also begun for the top post with DG Tihar Alok Verma to be the front-runner, followed by special commissioner Dipak Mishra and Dharmendra Kumar. Among those keeping an anxious eye on the development are members of the Delhi Cabinet.

Legal View on Panchayats

Panchayati raj ministry is finding it difficult to keep track of different legislations passed by states on panchayats and court judgments effecting panchayat polls. With Haryana’s directive on minimum educational qualification for contesting panchayat elections becoming a political hot potato, the ministry has now commissioned a study to collate all high court and SC judgments.

Rohatgi on CVC

Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi will deliver a lecture on “the role of CVC in present scenario” on November 20. This is first of its kind lecture series conceptualised by Central Vigilance Commissioner KV Chowdary. Rohtagi, as the top law officer of the country, has a vast experience of handling corruption cases both for the government and private individuals.
