As boxer Vijender Singh joined BJP after courting Congress, political circles were abuzz with rumours that Singh had sought time from a Congress chief minister. When he met the CM, Singh apparently sought government land to open a boxing academy to nurture young talent of the state. As Singh changed camp, Congress leaders heaved a sigh of relief that the party’s CM had not been magnanimous to grant his wish.

As BJP has renominated Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh from Gurgaon, an influential section of Haryana Congress is pushing for the candidature of anon-Haryanvi to take on the erstwhile Congress leader. This section has conveyed to AICC that former cine star and ex-UP Congress chief Raj Babbar, a Punjabi Khatri, can be effective against Ahir leader Singh. That leaves the ball in the court of senior Congress leader of the area, Capt Ajay Yadav, to yield his turf to Babbar or pad up to face Singh
