Trump' in Supreme Court

Republican Party's US presidential candidate found a mention in India's Supreme Court on Thursday, thanks to legal eagle Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Arguing for Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the veteran lawyer averred that CBI arrested Kejriwal only to "trump his freedom". And he quickly added with a smile: "The word Trump is dangerous these days."

Catch and get hen in reward

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, known for making hate speeches against a minority community, has received flak from within the party. A leader from BJP’s minority wing, Haji Arafat Shaikh, took on Rane for allegedly threatening to “bash Muslims inside mosques”. Shaikh has also addressed Rane as ‘dedhfoot’ (1.5 foot). To make the matter worse, an unidentified party person has put up banners outside Church Gate station, asking people to catch Rane and get a hen in reward.

Judge’s concern for ordinary litigants

“Do ordinary mortals get so much time,” asked Supreme Court judge, justice Surya Kant, while presiding over a plea filed by Kejriwal. He put this query to lawyers representing Kejriwal and CBI, who collectively took nearly five hours (the entire day) to argue and counterargue Kejriwal’s plea. The judge put the query expressing his concern for ordinary litigants, who ordinarily receive just a few minutes of audience from the top court.
