The wish and the response
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was among the several foreign leaders who sent congratulatory messages to PM Narendra Modi. Trudeau, however, made it a point to refer to human rights and rule of law. Modi chose to reply after four days unlike his quick reply to several other leaders and emphasised that ties need to focus on respect for each other's concerns and mutual understanding.

Jugaad bouquet
In India, ‘jugaad’ is something that saves the day for all. In one such recent incident, Mahadev Jankar resorted to ‘jugaad’ after he ‘forgot’ to bring a bouquet for PM Modi. When other leaders handed over their bouquet to the PM, security personnel kept them aside on a nearby chair. Jankar, who lost the Lok Sabha election from Parbhani, promptly took one of them and handed it over to Modi when it was his turn to meet him. A few other NDA leaders also followed suit.


Comparative respite from heat
The swearing-in ceremony for the third Narendra Modi government at Rashtrapati Bhavan was a pleasant affair for attendees as the event started late evening and the temperature had also dipped a bit. Unlike in 2019 and 2014 when the programme began early evening before sunset, this time attendees did not have to bear the brunt of the scorching sun. Some VIPs had come sporting bandhgalas and extra clothing to sync with the big occasion and had to suffer in silence. Since more MPs — 72 this time in comparison to 2019 (58) and 2014 (46) — took oath this time, it prolonged the function, making some guests uneasy.
