PIB's positives and negatives

A daily media report circulated by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to the I&B ministry not only lists out “positive” and “negative” reports and editorials regarding the prime minister and the government but also has a category of such reports regarding “allies”, “opposition” and the “BJP”. Clearly, the government wants to know just what is written about it and also the country's politics.

Star appeal for Bengal

Roopa Ganguly of Draupadi fame in BR Chopra's Mahabharata is likely to get an important role in the party's state unit. With polls just a few months away, the party wants to use her star appeal to woo voters. Party leaders say Ganguly may have been associated with the Left in the past, but since joining the BJP she has impressed the leadership with her hard work.

Changing musical theme

Their eagerness to capitalise on Ghulam Ali controversy last month appears to have rebounded for the AAP. Delhi's culture minister Kapil Mishra had to face uncomfortable moments on Monday when he announced that AR Rahman will perform in the Capital this month-end, for the NH7 Weekender. Those in the audience reminded him that he had promised Ali's performance in Delhi.

Constitution day event

More than essay contests will be held on the Constitution Day on November 26. The HRD ministry is learnt to have written to CBSE, ICSE and other school boards asking them to ensure that the Preamble to the Constitution is read out in the morning assembly. That apart, schools have been asked to invite people to give talks on the making of the Constitution that day.
