Keeping ‘Politics’ to One Side

The top court on Monday witnessed another heated exchange between legal veteran Kapil Sibal and the country’s second senior-most lawyer, Tushar Mehta. During the hearing on a PIL relating to the RG Kar rape-murder, Mehta said the senior lawyer has unfortunately “chosen to politicise” the issue. Sibal, appearing for the West Bengal government, sharply retorted, “If this is called politicisation, then God save this country.” The CJI intervened to caution that he will not allow “politicisation.”

Ducking the Bouncer

In a recent party meeting in Baramati, NCP leader Ajit Pawar was giving details about how much he has sanctioned for the constituency. Suddenly, someone from the crowd corrected him about his numbers. Pawar kept his cool and then gave a break-up of how he arrived at the calculation, and then told the crowd that he has been the state’s finance minister for several years and knows what he is talking about. It evoked a bit of laughter from the party workers.
