An interesting placard has appeared on the walls of the office at the residence of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. The note in bold letter reads: ‘Do not ask for Visa here’. No Rashtra Bhakti Divas
The Modi government silently rejected representations received by it that the birth anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on February 19 be celebrated as the ‘Rashtra Bhakti Prerna Divas’. The BJP is in power in Maharashtra where Shivaji is an iconic figure. The home ministry, however, made sure the decision was taken after due consultation with the culture ministry.
No LED bulbs in parliament
The government may be trying to promote use of LED lights among state employees and masses, but it has failed to put its own ‘House’ in order. Last week, when the Parliament building was lit up for the Constitution Day event, the bulbs used were the regular filament grade. In August too, during I-Day celebrations, there was no use of LED bulbs. The issue has been brought to notice of relevant ministry and some action is underway.
Flutter at National Bal Bhawan
The HRD ministry-backed school cultural fest — Kala Utsav — has spelt bad news for the director of the National Bal Bhawan, Usha Kumari. While Bal Bhawan on Tuesday hosted the opening of the Kala Utsav, Kumari was suddenly relieved from the job a month before her tenure ends next monthend. Kumari’s appointment has been faced with litigation. Deputy secretary in the ministry, Anamika Singh, has been given the charge.
