Third alternative before LS polls: Left

The Left parties on Sunday said there will be a third alternative to the UPA and the NDA before the Lok Sabha polls.

JALANDHAR: The Left parties on Sunday said there will be a third alternative to the UPA and the NDA before the Lok Sabha polls.

"Our party is trying to form a Third Front to provide an alternative to both UPA and NDA to the nation before the Lok sabha polls," Yechury said.

Asked whether Left Parties would project Mayawati as its prime ministerial candidate after she claimed yesterday that she had the political acumen to become the Prime Minister of the country, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury evaded a reply on the matter.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat was also not forthcoming on Mayawati's projection as Left party's prime ministerial candidate.

Brushing aside queries over who will be its prime ministerial candidate, Karat said the Left parties, along with the BSP and other allies, has decided to launch a nationwide campaign targeting the Indo-Us nuclear deal and price rise.

"We, along with BSP and other political parties have decided to launch a nationwide campaign on five issues, including the Indo-US Nuclear pact and price rise, and that is all for the time being," he said.
