There's revulsion against government: BJP

Arun Jaitley said the "government was at war with its own self" and this was manifesting even in international policy decisions.

NEW DELHI: Opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley attacked the government on issues like corruption, price rise, terrorism, appointment of Gujarat Lokayukta and cash-for-votes scandal and said a "revulsion" had set-in among people against the Congress-led UPA.

"I have not seen the government lose its credibility in one single session of Parliament. When the session started, the government had a lot of arrogance, but there was bitterness among the senior people in the government by the time the session ended," Jaitley said.

He said the "government was at war with its own self" and this was manifesting even in international policy decisions and cited Teesta water agreement with Bangladesh being scuttled following protests by the Trinamool Congress.

Sushma Swaraj said the differences between Congress and government came to the fore during the session and were visible in the Sports Bill. On the other hand, she said, the Opposition stood united.

Swaraj claimed that the Opposition was able to take up discussions on all major issues they wanted during the monsoon session and blamed the government for the hours lost due to disruptions. "If hours were lost, it was their mistake, not ours," she said.
