There's demographic divide now, create separate states: Kuki body

Kuki organisation Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has asked the central government to expedite the creation of a separate administration by forming a new state under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution as a way to ensure lasting peace in the region. A demographic, geographical demarcation has already come into effect now, the organisation stated.

On Wednesday, the Joint Students Body, Lamka, organised a Solidarity Evening in memory of those killed.

Khaikhohauh Gangte, general secretary, Kuki Inpi Manipur, stated, "In the midst of the prevailing situation arising out of the Machiavellian political dispensation designed and ordained by N Biren Singh through state-sponsored ethnic cleansing of Kukis, the KIM reaffirms its demand in the interest of the general public".


"Following its crucial cabinet meeting on July 12, 2023 and the executive decision taken thereof, the KIM stated its demand for a separate administration in the form of a separate state under Article 3 of the Constitution. Imphal has been compartmentalised by the Meiteis by hounding off all the Kukis from Imphal valley after burning their colonies/settlements and churches. In their nefarious attempt to usurp our inalienable land, certain acts like Protected Forest and Reserved Forest have been forcibly imposed in our land...," the body added.

The outright abrogation of the Moirang Treaty of 1859 and the Sanjenthong Treaty of 1873 coupled with the subsequent war on the Kuki people by the Meiteis is inimical to the principles of peaceful coexistence enshrined in the treaties, thus paving the way for the separation of the two communities."
