The Taj Palace plays host to Nicolas Sakozy, Carla Bruni

NEW DELHI: Carla Bruni-Sarkozy stands for more than just impeccable fashion. Besides being a social activist, she loves music and food too.

The French First Lady, who is on a four-day visit to India with her husband, President Nicolas Sarkozy, was fascinated by the Indian musical instruments like nagadas played to welcome her at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

Between her packed schedule, the First Lady found some time out for a lavish spread at the Tata Suite. Ms Sarkozy, who is accompanied by her mother and two friends, ordered a hand-tossed pizza margherita, a whole-wheat penne in tomorodo sauce and gourmet olives and grilled chicken in Mediterranean sauce.

Ms Sarkozy, known for her sweet tooth, also had the amaretto and tiramushu. Special chocolates such as Valrohna, Callebaut and Lindt and small desserts like almond fimantier, molleaux and chouquettes were also placed in her room.

President Nicolas Sarkozy and the First Lady are staying at the refurbished and newly launched Tata Suite. With 16 spacious rooms, an en suite spa, a piano for music aficionados, art by contemporary masters and the finest craftsmanship in the country on display, the freshly launched suite complements the couple’s sense of grace and grandeur.

The Taj Palace has played host to prominent personalities and heads of state from across the globe: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Parvez Musharraf, Cherie and Tony Blair, Nancy Pelosi and Matti Vanskaa (PM of Finland), among others.
