The probe continues despite no alleged offence and FIR: P Chidambaram

Former senior Congress leader had earlier described the ED action in the case as a “crazy mixture of falsehoods and conjectures” and said that the charge sheet filed by probe agencies had been rejected by the court.

Earlier in the day, P Chidambaram got protection by a Delhi court from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until July 10 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case.
Former union finance minister, P Chidambaram, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate today, during which he was quizzed by the officials for around six and a half hours in connection with Aircel-Maxis case.

He also said that all his answers were already recorded in government documents related to Aircel-Maxis deal.

Senior Congress leader had earlier described the ED action in the case as a “crazy mixture of falsehoods and conjectures” and said that the charge sheet filed by probe agencies had been rejected by the court.


Earlier in the day, P Chidambaram got protection by a Delhi court from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until July 10 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case. Former minister's son Karti Chidambaram in the case is scheduled to be heard on July 10.

The Aircel-Maxis cases pertains to the grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd in 2006 for investment in Aircel.

The CBI and the ED are investigating the foreign investment clearance granted in 2006 for the Aircel-Maxis deal, when Mr Chidambaram was finance minister in the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. Both the agencies had increased the pace of investigation after directions from the Supreme Court to fasten the investigation process.
