Earlier in the day, P Chidambaram got protection by a Delhi court from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) until July 10 in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case. Former minister's son Karti Chidambaram in the case is scheduled to be heard on July 10.
The Aircel-Maxis cases pertains to the grant of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd in 2006 for investment in Aircel.
The CBI and the ED are investigating the foreign investment clearance granted in 2006 for the Aircel-Maxis deal, when Mr Chidambaram was finance minister in the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. Both the agencies had increased the pace of investigation after directions from the Supreme Court to fasten the investigation process.
