KOCHI: The 11th edition of the golden leaf India award: southern tea competition ( TGLIA) held in Mumbai was over on May 16 with the final tea tasting session.
The 55 short listed teas that qualified the first and second level of screening were evaluated at the final tasting session by a panel of jury comprising renowned tasters, major buyers, tea packeteers and exporters.

Woodbriar group and Joonktollee Tea & Industries Ltd. won six awards each; Hittakkal group won five awards, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd.- RP Sanjiv Goenka group won four awards and United Nilgiri Tea Estates Company Ltd. bagged three awards.

Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Pvt. Ltd., Kodanad Estate, TANTEA, Bluegate Beverages (P) Ltd., Poabs Organic Products Pvt. Ltd. and Darmona Tea Industry bagged one award each.

A business session was held as part of the event in which sellers from South India and buyers from Maharashtra and Gujarat participated. There was also session on promotion of south Indian teas moderated by N Dharmaraj, vice president of United Planters’Association of Southern India.
