Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, widely seen to be keeping the option of contesting the Congress presidential polls open, on Sunday met Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, who appears to be the high command's first preference to head the party should the Gandhis decide to opt out of the leadership.

It is learnt that both discussed the state of Congress, with Gehlot 'laying emphasis on the need to ensure complete unity in the party' to strengthen fight against RSS and BJP. On his arrival in New Delhi on Saturday, Gehlot is learnt to have met BS Hooda, a prominent change seeker.

While there was no comment from Gehlot and Tharoor till the press time, Tharoor tweeted about Congress' Delhi rally: A strong speech by @RahulGandhi at @INCIndia's #MehengaiParHallaBol rally roused the huge crowds... Now to take the message across the country in the #BharatJodoYatra!"
