Thackeray slams Maharashtra govt for 'inaction' over Rane
Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has criticised the Maharashtra government for "failing" to take action against Revenue Minister Narayan Rane whose supporters, he said, attacked the Pune's office of party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.
"If Rane is not arrested, then members of (state) Cabinet should wear bangles," Thackeray said in a hard-hitting editorial in 'Saamana'on Sunday.
"Once it became clear that he couldn't become chief minister, a frustrated Rane hired goons to attack Saamana office," the one-time mentor of the Shiv Sainik-turned- Congressman said.
Alluding to Rane's office on sixth floor of state secretariat here, Thackeray said "there is a 'kothi' (brothel) on sixth floor of Mantralaya. If the Chief Minister is going to call its resident a bride, then it is the insult of all daughter and daughters-in-law in Maharashtra."
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had likened Rane to a newly-wed bride who takes time to adjust to new surroundings (Rane joined Congress in 2005 after quitting Sena).
He wanted the media and political parties to strongly condemn the vandalising of the newspaper office. "The impartial nature of media and political parties will be proved if they condemn the attack on Saamana office and that on Loksatta editor Kumar Ketkar's house in the same terms."
