Textbook row; YC to intensify stir

The Youth Congress in Kerala said it would intensify its ongoing stir demanding withdrawal of the `controversial' seventh standard social science textbook.

KOZHIKODE: The Youth Congress in Kerala today said it would intensify its ongoing stir demanding withdrawal of the `controversial' seventh standard social science textbook.
`Youth Congress State President T Siddique will undergo an indefinite fast in front of the Secretariat from July 9', Youth Congress State Secretary Thiruvallur Murali told reporters here.
It was quite unfortunate that the Government was not prepared to withdraw the textbook despite widespread statewide protests on the issue, he said, adding the appointment of an expert panel to look into the matter would not suffice.
`Certain contents of the textbook are clearly aimed at glorifying the communist ideology and also attempts to trigger communal passion', Murali said.
