NIA is probing a case of how government funds in Nagaland were siphoned off by banned militant outfit Khaplang faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN).

Zeliang has been asked to appear in NIA headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday with relevant documents.

However, Zeliang, has expressed inability to be present there stating that the state assembly session will be underway on Tuesday. As many as 14 departments are under the NIA scanner in Nagaland.

In October 2017, NIA had arrested four government officials. Opposition Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) termed this a case of political vendetta.

The party stated, " A devious game is being played against former chief minister and NPF leader TR Zeliang by the NIA which is tasked with looking into terror activities in the country but now it appears to be used to grind the proverbial political axe.”
