LUCKNOW: Tension prevailed in Greater Noida, with hundreds of people out on the streets during the cremation of slain BJP leader Vijay Pandit.

He was killed on Saturday night and was cremated after his body was handed over to the family members on Sunday, amid high tension.

The state administration rushed in additional forces, including the Provisional Armed Constabulary, to tackle the crowds.

Vijay Pandit’s wife Geeta alleged that Samajwadi Party candidate from Gautam Budh Nagar in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Narendra Bhati, and Anail Bhadana were behind the murder.

The 35-year-old Dadri-based Vijay Pandit was returning home from his brother’s shop, when he was shot dead by unidentified bike riders on Saturday night. He was shot five times and succumbed to his injuries. As the news spread, there were protests and arson by Pandit’s supporters on the streets of Greater Noida.
