BHUBANESWAR: Parts of Orissa's Jagatsinghpur district were tense Monday, a day after clashes broke out over the setting up of a steel plant by South Korean major Posco.
Three people were injured Sunday in the violence between the supporters and critics of the project in Govindpur village, 150 km from here, police said Monday.
Anti-Posco activists had organised three meetings at Govindpur, Patna and Nuagaon villages, Prasant Paikray, spokesperson of the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti, told IANS.
At Govindpur, a supporter of the project hurled a bomb at an anti-Posco activist's house. Two people were injured, Paikray said. "Anti-Posco activists beat up a supporter," Assistant Superintendent of Police J. Mitra told IANS.
Posco, the world's fourth largest steel maker, signed a deal with the Orissa government in 2005 to build a plant near Paradeep port by 2016. The project has displaced many and has led to repeated clashes.
