Ten killed, 35 injured in Islamabad
Ten people killed and 35 injured as a suicide bomber attacks in Islamabad, local media reports.
ISLAMABAD: Ten people were killed and 35 injured when a suicide bomber struck the venue of a lawyers' meeting due to be addressed by Pakistan's suspended Chief Justice Iftikar M Chaudhry here this evening.
Dawnnews TV channel quoted an Interior Ministry spokesman as saying that a suicide bomber had struck the meeting of the Islamabad District Bar Association.
Private Geo TV channel reported that 10 people were killed and 35 injured in the attack which took place when Chudhry was barely 20 minutes away from the venue.
Police sealed off the venue soon after the blast took place at around 2030 hours when Chaudhry was being taken in a big procession by lawyers.
Soon after the explosion, Chaudhry was driven to a safe area.
The blast took place close to the booth of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), headed by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
