Ten Indians, most of them believed to be from Andhra Pradesh, were among the 11 people killed after a massive fire destroyed an old building in Deira locality here.

DUBAI: Ten Indians, most of them believed to be from Andhra Pradesh, were among the 11 people killed after a massive fire destroyed an old building in Deira locality here.

Rescue teams worked through the night searching for bodies through the debris, after the ceiling of the single-storey building collapsed due to fire on Tuesday.

���Consular officials are at the site and co-ordinating with authorities to ascertain the number and identity of those dead and will announce as soon as they get the details,��� sources in the Dubai consulate said. Police have also launched a probe into the cause of the fire.

Brigadier Mehdi Abdul Al Jalil of Dubai Police told reporters that most people died when the ceiling of the single-storey building collapsed due to fire. ���Fire was not that big and it was put out in a couple of hours but the building was very old and the ceiling collapsed while they were sleeping,��� Al Jalil said.

Venu Rajamony, India���s consul-general in Dubai, also assured all possible help for the victims. ���We will of course help the victims and their family members in any way we can,��� he was quoted as saying.
