Telgi sentenced for entering into criminal conspiracy with police.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Court today sentenced fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi to seven years imprisonment for entering into criminal conspiracy with public servants, including a Delhi Police Inspector, during 1999 to 2001 to influence investigation into the cases.
Special CBI judge P S Teji also imposed a total fine of Rs one lakh on Telgi.
The court had on April 26 held him guilty of various offences including criminal conspiracy and giving false evidence under the IPC and other offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The proceedings of the court were held through video-conferencing as Telgi is now lodged in a Bangalore jail.
Telgi who is afflicted with HIV was told of his sentence by the judge through the video-conferencing.
According to CBI's chargesheet, Telgi had conspired with inspector Puran Singh, sub-inspector Gaurav Aggarwal, head constable Om Prakash and constables Sanjay Bajaj and Ratan Singh during 1999-2001.
Singh, who was then probing a case of fake stamps registered at Defence Colony police station in south Delhi, had been accused of taking bribes from Telgi.
The court is conducting proceedings relating to framing of charges against Singh and other accused in the case as they had pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
The court fixed June 2 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
