Telangana to shift polluting factories from out of Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: In a move that could provide a major relief to the citizens living around industrial zones in Hyderabad, the Telangana government has decided to shift the polluting factories outside the limits of outer ring road by next year-end.

Telangana’s industries minister K. Taraka Rama Rao on Saturday held a meeting with the representatives of the Bulk Drugs Manufacturers’ Association (BDMA) and assured them of providing modern infrastructure facilities at the proposed Integrated Pharma City near Hyderabad.

In a statement, the Telangana government said it has identified 1,068 polluting industrial units in the first phase to be shifted out the city aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens around the industrial zones in the city.

Industries Minister Rao said while the polluting industrial units will be shifted out of the city in the first phase, the government will look at shifting all the industrial units out of the city in phases, offering them attractive incentives.

The government proposes to see that the units proposed to be shifted will be relocated this time far away from the public localities after establishing infrastructure in the industry specific clusters with zero liquid discharge methods.

Rao sought the suggestions of the BDMA even while assuring them of exploring the opportunities to relocate the industrial units into the proposed Integrated Pharma City. The government has also promised set up a common affluent plant at the new location before shifting the polluting units out of the city.
