HYDERABAD: Telangana, which is expected to be become the 29th state of India, consists of ten districts, including Hyderabad and is rich in mineral resources.

It is spread over an area of 1,14,840 sq km and has a population of 3,52,86,757 (as per 2011 Census).

Besides Hyderabad, which is the capital city, the other districts of the region are: Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad and Nizamabad.

Telangana region has rich natural resources. About 45 per cent of the forest area in Andhra Pradesh state is in Telangana region while 20 per cent of the country's coal deposits in the country are also found here.

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited excavates coal from these mines for industrial needs and thermal power stations.

Telangana is also rich in limestone deposits that cater to cement factories. Telangana has other mineral resources like bauxite and mica.

Perennial rivers Godavari and Krishna enter Andhra Pradesh in Telangana before flowing down through other regions and ending up in the Bay of Bengal.

Musi, Bhima, Kinnerasani and Pen Ganga are the smaller rivers that flow in Telangana.

Hyderabad apart, Warangal is the largest city in the region and also has a historic past like the former.

While Hyderabad was the seat of power of the Nizams, the powerful Kakatiya dynasty ruled over Warangal.

Hyderabad emerged as the epicenter of all development over the years, more so in the last 15-20 years. In fact, Hyderabad has come to be known as "mini India" what with people from every state in the country making it their home.
