Telangana HC orders against demolition of Errum Manzil

The state planned to demolish Errum Manzil to build a legislature complex.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Monday directed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government not to demolish the heritage structure Errum Manzil for the proposed construction of a new Assembly building.

The division bench comprising chief justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and justice Shameem Akhter has also struck down the state Cabinet’s decision to demolish Errum Manzil to build the legislature complex.

The court has pronounced its decisions through a 111-page order, while responding to a batch of public interest litigations filed by various organisations contesting the K Chandrashekar Rao government to demolish the heritage structure. While the government argued in favour of its decision to raze down Errum Manzil, the court agreed with the petitioners’ contention that it was a heritage building that needs to be protected.
