Telangana BJP gets centre's nod to construct memorial to P V Narasimha Rao

HYDERABAD: Lauding the services of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao to the country, the Telangana BJP today hailed the Centre's proposal to construct a memorial to the departed leader in Delhi.

"BJP's Telangana unit welcomes the decision of the central government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi to construct a memorial for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in Delhi," state BJP president G Kishan Reddy said in a statement.

"P V Narasimha Rao had a rich five decade-old experience in politics. He participated in the fight against the Nizam in Telangana and went on to become the first Prime Minister from South India. It is a matter of pride for Telangana people," Reddy said in the statement.

Reddy thanked PM Modi for deciding to set up the memorial on the banks of the Yamuna in the national capital as per the request of chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the statement said.

Thanking PM Modi for the move, Narasimha Rao's grandson N V Subhash who is a BJP leader, recalled that the request was made to Modi during his visit to Hyderabad earlier, the statement said.

Telugu people would remember Modi for the gesture, Subhash said in the statement.
