Rao alleged CAA, NPR and NRC were ‘divisive’ and ‘endangered’ the integrity and safety of the census. He said it was not a Hindu-Muslim issue but was about the future of the country. Ridiculing the trend of dubbing anyone who opposed CAA, NPR and NRC either as a Pakistani agent or a traitor, the CM said, “can you call the Telangana assembly a traitor for passing the resolution?” Rao said CAA went against the Constitution and had created insecurity among crores of people across India.
Highlighting the fears among a large section of Indians, the assembly resolution urged “the Government of India to amend the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, in order to remove all references to any religion or to any foreign country.” The House urged the state government to take steps to safeguard the people of Telangana from exercises such as NPR and NRC.
