Telangana: 70 pc of caste census in state done, says Rahul Gandhi

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that the Telangana government had completed more than 70 per cent of the caste census. He said that the data will soon release the details for the entire state, based on which policies would be formulated. It will also strengthen social justice, said the Congress leader.


He urged for a caste census for the entire country and said that Telangana had led the way, in a post on social media platform X.

Gandhi on November 5 had said he is fully committed to ensuring caste census in Telangana and in making the state a model for caste census in the country. The survey started from November 6. He had said caste census is the first process to be taken up to assess the extent and nature of discrimination.

"So, I am fully committed to ensuring not only the caste census happens in Telangana, but that Telangana becomes a model for the caste census in the country," he said.


Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had said he wondered why the PM has not publicly said that he wanted to challenge the idea of discrimination in India.

"Why is the PM scared of asking how many Dalits, OBCs, Adivasis are there in corporates, judiciary, media," he asked.

The Congress has also promised a caste survey in Maharashtra and Jharkhand if elected to power after the Assembly election.
