Techy couple's son abducted in Hyderabad

Three-and-a-half-year-old son of a software engineer couple kidnapped in broad daylight in Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD: Rohit Reddy, the three-and-a-half-year-old son of a software engineer couple, was kidnapped on Tuesday in broad daylight near his school at Madhapur, the IT hub of the city.

The incident has shocked IT sector employees, who have become potential targets now, given their large disposable incomes and high profile lifestyles.

The kidnapping comes barely two months after the abduction of a senior level employee of Satyam Computers, Vedula Satyanaraya. He was later set free by the kidnappers.

Rohit's father, G Ravinder Reddy is with Cognizant Technologies, while his mother Lalasa is a software engineer with Satyam Computers.

Police suspect ransom to be the motive for the kidnap. Rohit’s school, Sanskruti Vidyalayam, is just 300 yards from
his home at Golden Tulip apartments. The kidnappers used a Qualis, said sources.

"It is a fact that one of our employees has registered a case with the police, stating that his child was missing. We are awaiting further information from the police. Our organisation will extend all help to our employee in this challenging situation," said a spokesperson of Cognizant Technologies.

In November last year, the kidnapping of Adobe CEO Naresh Gupta's son in Delhi had created a flutter, particularly in IT circles. There were reports that a ransom was paid to secure the release of the child then.
