Technology to track terrorists: Sensors to check infiltrations soon
BSF issued an EoI for sensors last year too. The procurement has got a push now after BSF failed to detect an intrusion in Samba last month.

As per an expression of interest (EoI) issued by the Border Security Force on October 14, accessed by ET, “the prevailing security scenario on the international border has constrained the organisation to think about augmenting the present surveillance mechanism by employing UGS.”
The EoI mentions the sensors would have the capability to give ‘realtime alarms’ to detect an intruder or multiple intruder locations simultaneously to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
BSF issued an EoI for sensors last year too. The procurement has got a push now after BSF failed to detect an intrusion in Samba last month, which led to a major attack on an Army camp.
As per an expression of interest, Unattended Ground Sensors will be a combination of CCTVs and a variety of sensors like passive infrared sensor (to detect movement of objects), magnetic sensor (to monitor movement of metallic objects such as weapons), seismic sensors (to identify ground vibration caused by pedestrians), make or break sensors (which if cut or break will give instant alarm), acoustic sensors, microwave sensors and pressure cable sensor (to detect the passage of an object by sensing the pressure on the sensor buried under ground).
