Team India arrives in Mumbai

The Indian cricket team will leave for Delhi in the evening for a public welcome after their win at Brisbane. India beat Australia | Congratulate Team India

MUMBAI: The Indian cricket team returned here on Thursday from Australia after winning the Commonwealth Bank tri-series at Brisbane.

The team will leave for Delhi later in the day where they will get a grand reception and a public welcome at the Ferozeshah Kotla. The ceremony is likely to start at 4:00 p.m. and entry to the stadium will be free.

This time, there will be no open-top bus parade like the Twenty20 World Championship winning team or the Under-19 World Cup winning team in Bangalore.

The Indian Team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be brought to Delhi by a chartered flight from Mumbai.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sharad Pawar on Tuesday had announced that Dhoni's team would get Rs 10 crore cash award. He had also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for the selectors of the Indian Team while lauding the selection.

The cash awards would also be given to the players at the grand felicitation ceremony.

India beat Australia by a 2-0 margin in the best of three finals at Brisbane on Tuesday.

The tour was marred by many on-field and off-field controversies, which threatened to derail the tour and split the cricket world.

The Master-blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, has overtaken Australian captain Ricky Ponting as No. 1 in the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s one-day international batsmen ranking.

The latest ICC rankings for the ODI batsmen were declared after India's thrilling win in the Commonwealth Bank tri-series against Australia in Sydney.

The last time Australia surrendered back-to-back finals was 1983-84 and 1984-85, against West Indies, and a loss today would be a chastening blow.
