NEW DELHI: A visibly-elated Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, along with the other team members, landed at the Mumbai airport at around 8:15 am on Wednesday. They were received by the senior NCP leader and the BCCI president Sharad Pawar.
The proud winners were also greeted by the region's chief minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh before being taken on an open-top bus to the Wankhede stadium in South Mumbai for a reception hosted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to reports reaching here, the team will be visiting Siddhi Vinayak temple in Mumbai before heading to the Wankhede stadium.
The players' felicitation function will be held at around 1030 hrs on the stadium lawns, BCCI said.
Elaborate security measures are in place on the 35-kilometre journey from Mumbai airport, with giant hoardings on display to congratulate the surprise winners.
Despite rains in Mumbai, the fans have been waiting impatiently to give a warm welcome to the triumphant Indian cricket team.
