TDP urges EC to begin fresh enumeration in AP
With the assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh due next year, TDP today alleged "grave irregularities" in the preparation of electoral rolls and urged the Election Commission to conduct a fresh intensive enumeration in the state.
In a memorandum to the EC, Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that "at the instance of Congress leaders, most of the poll officials acted in a partisan manner, deleted the names of eligible voters supporting the opposition parties and included bogus voters to suit the ruling party".
TDP also demanded appointment of senior officials from other states as Special Observers for investigating and correcting the irregularities.
Talking to reporters here, Naidu said he also spoke to Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy in this regard.
In a memorandum, the party demanded appropriate action against the officials responsible for the "irregularities" in the draft electoral rolls.
Noting that the Chief Electoral Officer and other authorities have admitted that irregularities had crept into the revision of rolls, it said "due to the interference of many ruling party MLAs and Ministers, the concerned authorities are not in a position to discharge their duties impartially."
The EC should also direct the state CEO to conduct door to door enumeration as per the serial numbers given by the local authorities and to prepare the voters list with photo identity cards afresh, the memorandum said.
