TDP members suspended

TDP and Telangana Rashtra Samithi members, including the Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu, were suspended from Andhra Pradesh Assembly for obstructing the proceedings.

HYDERABAD: The Opposition TDP and Telangana Rashtra Samithi members, including the Leader of the Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu, were on Monday suspended from Andhra Pradesh Assembly for obstructing the proceedings on two separate issues leading to pandemonium in the House.

Twenty-one TDP members were suspended for the period of Question Hour after they created ruckus over the arrest of party leaders near Obulapuram in Anantapur district, bordering Karnataka, on Saturday.

Several TDP leaders, including some MLAs and MLCs, were taken into custody by the police when they tried to enter an iron ore mining site, about 20 Kms from Karnataka border, alleging illegal mining activity by the Obulapuram Mining Corporation owned by Karnataka MLC G Janardhan Reddy.

Later, they were taken to a police station at Rayadurg where the opposition has been staging demonstration since Saturday. A Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the motion.

Despite CM Y S Rajasekhar Reddy's assurance of making a statement on the matter soon after Question Hour, the agitated Opposition refused to budge. Raising full-throated slogans against the Congress government, they stormed the Speaker's podium and stalled the proceedings.

The Speaker initially adjourned the House for 10 minutes allowing tempers to cool down. As the furore continued even after the House re-assembled, the Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy moved a resolution, under rule 340, seeking suspension of 21 TDP members, including Naidu, who were present in the House.
