TDP hails India-US trade deal but raises concerns over shrimp export
The TDP party has expressed enthusiasm about the newly established trade agreement between India and the US, particularly applauding the lowered tariffs. Nonetheless, they voiced worries about the potential negative repercussions for shrimp export...

During the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, TDP MP Mastan Rao Yadav said that in 2025, the US imposed a 25% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods, followed by an additional 25% punitive duty linked to India's purchases of Russian oil. "As a result, several Indian exports faced an effective tariff burden of 50-58%, impacting nearly $48-50 billion worth of shipments to the US market. These measures severely disrupted trade flows, eroded competitiveness, and created uncertainty for exporters, particularly MSMEs and labour-intensive sectors," Yadav said.
He also praised PM Narendra Modi and the NDA government for the determined efforts and proactive diplomatic engagement with the US yielding tangible results in terms of the trade deal.
